Cold, Wind, and a lot of rain in the preceding days meant the Sahara Sands Hare Scramble was going to be a memorable one. The Pine Barons Enduro Riders hosted a great event especially given the conditions they were handed - and they managed to kept the tents up, ribbons along the trail, and arrows on the trees in spite of it all. While it didn't rain during the Main event, there wasn't a dry rider out there - either roost of close encounters with the ground made sure everyone left cold, wet, and smiling. It was Mike Lafferty (#122) in the end that put his Husaberg in 1st place, closely followed by Andrew DeLong (#3) on his KTM, with Nick Davis (#141) turning in an impressive 3rd Overall from the B-Lites Class.

We weren't able to make it up in time for the peewee race (sorry guys!) - a late start and horrific traffic in DC due to the rain got us up to the sand pit at dark Saturday. But we did start out Sunday morning in the light rain with the Youth & C Class races. The weather wasn't cooperating so the 1st thing we did was videotape everyone on the start lines in case we had to bail out - our camera protective gear is water 'resistant' not water 'proof' - and it was helpful working together, having an extra hand to wipe the rain off the lens between riders. And during the C Class race Heidi was able to bypass the riders around a sippy hole while I filmed those already committed to it ;-) The weather improved and we used both cameras for the Main but my hands were so cold I was having a hard time working the controls on my camera - overall a tough day filming, but probably a tougher day riding ;-)

We have almost 2 hours of video online from the Sahara Sand Hare Scramble.
